Overview

A mash-up of passion projects I’ve been working on to explore my interest in visual story telling through immersive and engaging media. This was unpaid and self managed work, done explicitly to teach myself new ways of using creativity to reach consumers.

Procedurally generated terrain for a game world.

Creating hit recognition for destructible objects in game.

Identify

When you want to fix something, you have to be able to identify what needs fixing. All too often folks want to find a solution before actually sitting down and really having a look at it. It’s the ‘I want it fixed yesterday’ mentality. Which is why the first thing I do when attacking a design problem, is isolate it, and list exactly what it is BEFORE trying to find a solution or create a project scope for redesign.

Distil

Once we identify the issue, we now have to distil the non essentials from the solution. Trying to fix a problem with too many tools, people, or pieces will always lead to confusion, mistakes, and project extensions. The more moving pieces a machine has, the easier it’ll break. Keep it simple, and keep it condensed.

Refine

The final step to any project is the refining of details. You have the solution, now put it into action and make it work. Take everything you’ve gathered, identified, distilled or learned, and polish it until it shines. CONGRATULATIONS we’ve just solved the problem in the most clear, concise, and efficient way possible.

Now onto the next one…
